India’s 17-man squad for the Asia Cup 2023 was announced on August 21, 2023
By captain Rohit Sharma and BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar in a press conference. The tournament is scheduled to begin on August 30, 2023, and India’s first match is against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2 in Sri Lanka.
The squad is as follows:
Batters | Allrounders | Bowlers |
---|---|---|
Rohit Sharma (c) | Ravindra Jadeja | Jasprit Bumrah |
Ishan Kishan (wk) | Hardik Pandya (vc) | Kuldeep Yadav |
Shreyas Iyer | Axar Patel | Mohammed Shami |
Virat Kohli | Tilak Varma | Mohammed Siraj |
KL Rahul (wk) | Prasidh Krishna | |
Shubman Gill | Shardul Thakur | |
Suryakumar Yadav |
The squad includes a couple of key players returning from injury and the team leadership and selectors taking a gamble on an uncapped player. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have made a comeback to the squad. However, since Rahul has a niggle, Sanju Samson has been named the backup player.
