Neeraj Chopra wins historic gold at the World Athletics championships with an 88.17m javelin throw
Neeraj Chopra is an Indian track and field athlete who is the reigning Olympic champion, World champion and the Diamond League champion in the javelin throw. He is the first Asian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in his event and the first such Asian to win gold at the World Championship. He recently won gold in the men’s javelin at the World Athletics Championships 2023 held in Budapest, Hungary.
Neeraj Chopra’s personal best throw is 89.94m, achieved at the Stockholm Diamond League in Sweden on June 30, 2022. The mark stands as the men’s national record in India and Neeraj Chopra’s personal best.
The men’s javelin throw world record is held by Jan Zelezny, a Czech athlete who threw the javelin at a distance of 98.48m in 1996 during an athletics meet in Germany.
