From a Connecticut filmmaker being shortlisted for the Oscars for his documentary on the pandemic to Martha Stewart spotted dining and a Stamford woman appearing on “The Bachelor,” January had no shortage of celebrity news.
Martha Stewart and some of her friends have lunch at Ruby & Bella’s of Saksworks Greenwich.
Martha Stewart, a resident of Katonah, N.Y., was seen eating lunch with friends at Ruby & Bella’s in the newly opened SaksWorks Greenwich located in the former Ralph Lauren store on Greenwich Avenue in January. Stewart and her group were celebrating the birthday of acclaimed designer Andrew Yu.

Rock icon Meat Loaf, who was known for hits like “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That),” died at the age of 74 in January. The rocker had deep connections to Connecticut including owning several homes and being involved in the baseball community. He also played fantasy football with a Quinnipiac professor who remembers him well.

Tessa Tookes, 26, a human resources specialist from Stamford appeared on Season 26 of ABC’s “The Bachelor.” During the first episode, Tookes said that Bachelor Clayton Echard, embodied “exactly” what she was looking for. Tookes was eliminated from the show a few weeks later. Wearing a dark green dress, Tookes said goodbye to the other contestants and then gave the bachelor Clayton Echard a hug, saying, “Thanks so much. You’re a lucky guy.”
Sisters Charli and Dixie D’Amelio both came into fame after producing content on TikTok. Now, the sisters and their family have their own docuseries on Hulu.
The social media celebrity sisters made it to the top of Forbes’ list of top-earning TikTok content creators for 2021, which came out in January. The D’Amelio sisters raked in over $27 million combined.

Documentary filmmaker Matthew Heineman, who grew up in Connecticut, has been shortlisted as an Oscar nominee for his 2020 film on COVID-19, “The First Wave.” The critically acclaimed documentary was produced through National Geographic and billed as a “testament to the human spirit.”

90s Con is coming to Hartford this March, and it’s bringing along a whole slew of 90s teen idols. In January, the convention announced the addition of actors from “Halloweentown” and “Hocus Pocus,” according to a piece by Us Weekly. Previously announced stars included cast members from “Charmed” and “Boy Meets World.” This will be the first convention reunion of the “Hocus Pocus” cast, according to an Instagram post from the convention’s page.

Former professional baseball manager and player Bobby Valentine signed on to be a brand ambassador for Rush Street Interactive Inc., the company announced.
The Stamford native’s career included playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers, California Angels, New York Mets and Seattle Mariners. He also managed the Texas Rangers, New York Mets and Boston Red Sox. Most recently, Valentine narrowly lost the 2021 Stamford mayoral election while running as an unaffiliated candidate.

Chef Christian Petroni, a Food Network personality and former partner in the Fortina restaurants in Stamford and New York, has announced a partnership with Bertucci’s.
Celebrity chef Christian Petroni, known in Connecticut as a former partner in Stamford’s Fortina restaurant, is lending his expertise in Italian food to the Bertucci’s restaurant group.
Petroni, a past “Chopped” winner and victor on season 14 of “Food Network Star,” grew up in an Italian family in the Bronx, and learned traditional Italian cooking from his mother and grandmother.
